About the Course:
This course provides students with comprehensive knowledge of the broadcast production process and an introduction to the world of commercial production. Students get ‘behind the scene’ information about every facet of the production process and develop an insider’s view of many of the facilities involved in making commercials.
The course is directed by an experienced commercial production professional who will guide students’ total learning experience. Every week an industry expert will host the class. These facilitators have been carefully chosen for their particular expertise and their keen interest in helping to build production knowledge and skills. Many of the classes for the course will be held on-site at pertinent production facilities.
What to expect from this course:
After completing this course you will have a working knowledge of each aspect of producing a television commercial.
You will be able to:
- Develop a production schedule from script approval to airdate.
- Create an effective brief for a supplier.
- Be familiar with the elements of an agency production estimate.
- Understand the purpose of a pre-production meeting and create a pertinent agenda.
- Recognize the roles of all personnel on the shoot day.
- Be able to liaise effectively with agency account and creative teams.
- Be a valuable conduit between suppliers, agency and client.
- Possess a list of suppliers from whom to draw upon for future reference.

About the Course Instructor:

Sandy is a recruiter, specializing in for the advertising, marketing and interactive industries, focusing on creative personnel. This has been an evolution from her role as a partner and broadcast producer at Second Unit, placing broadcast producers with creative teams at advertising agencies. Her staff broadcast management experience includes engagements at Vickers and Benson, Carder Gray, Scali McCabe Sloves and Young and Rubicam.
Sandy is a recipient of advertising awards including the Bessies, Marketing Awards and Art Directors Awards. Sandy serves as a Director on the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) in Toronto.
