About the Course:

Designed for people who have recently started a career in communications and want to enhance their knowledge of the industry by learning more about how the communications process works. 

This course helps to build an understanding of the dynamics of marketing and the role that the communications discipline plays in building branded businesses.  You will explore marketing and communications concepts in depth and build your understanding of the core tools used in a communications project.  The engaging course structure includes applied exercises, case discussions and expert guest lecturers.

Over the course of 12 weekly evening sessions, get exposed to the principles of branding, communications strategy, media planning and learn about creative production processes.  This course is highly recommended for those interested in accelerating into the industry accreditation stream (The CAAP program).

What to expect from the course:

  • Build understanding of the marketing communications ( marcom) discipline with a particular focus on advertising.
  • Gain a grasp of the processes applied in building communications solutions.
  • Learn about the business practices that help advertising agencies run effectively.
  • Develop marketing analysis and communication planning skills.
  • Experience the marcom discipline by building a communications plan that is both consumer-oriented and strategically focused.

About the Course Instructor:

Led by Suzanne Filiatrault, Director of Professional Development, ICA

Suzanne Filiatrault directs this series of workshops, working closely with handpicked guest lecturers from leading agencies who provide a comprehensive industry perspective.  Suzanne is currently ICA's Director of Professional Development and is an accomplished instructor, as well as a communications practitioner with deep agency and client experience.  She built her agency experience at Ogilvy & Mather, Vickers & Benson and DMB&B and has established her marketing credentials in packaged goods, on-line services, consumer research and the educational field.

Suzanne is responsible for inviting leading industry experts into the weekly sessions to help round out the insight and experience shared during class time. Past guest speakers have included:
